If you’re a regular reader of this blog, you may have noticed that things have changed a little bit around here! And that’s because Yopp now officially has its own logo!!!!

A few months ago, I began brainstorming ideas for potential merchandise for Yopp (specifics to be announced later) and realized that if I was going to make merch, I needed a logo. I really had no idea what I wanted in a logo and while I have some basic drawing and design skills, I’m really not enough of an artist to create...

CN: brief discussion of sexuality, sexism influenced medical neglect, reproductive disorders, and disability.

Remember my interview about sex and disability last month on the podcast Into Your Body

Story time: Before that podcast was recorded, Vi La Bianca, a previous guest blogger for Yopp, invited me to come onto her youtube show Secular Sexuality to discuss sex and disability. To be honest, I felt nervous about interviewing about a topic I don't particularly specialize in-- while I talk a...

A few weeks ago I got together with my friend DJ and we had a conversation about disability and sex for his podcast Into Your Body. Dj’s podcast explores some progressive takes on sexuality and your relationship with your body, particularly exploring how these topics intersect with particular marginalizations.

This was my very first podcast and my first recorded interview and I had a really good time talking about some of the deeper nuances of disability and how many of the strategies that you...

After my "Close the Camps" article went semi-viral I received a lot of messages and emails from people interested to talk to me, compliment my work, and get my input on their options for activism. It was a big shift from the level of activity around my blog that I'm used to!

But perhaps one of the most exciting contacts I made from this process was writer and poet Jamie Dedes reaching out to me, asking me if she could interview me for her blog The Poet by Day, a website with focus on poetry, w...

Yopp finally has a Patreon! You can now show your support for this blog directly by signing up to be a patron and giving monthly contributions, starting at just $1!

There will be fun rewards like access to excerpts from the cringeworthy fiction that I wrote in high school, the opportunity to have me answer one social justice related question a month, a 1-Hour live Q&A, and if you're really generous, I'll interview you remotely and write a blog post based on a story from your life!

Why Beco...

Want to have your writing published on this blog? Yopp! Is now accepting pitches and submissions for publication!

You may have noticed that my publication rate has decreased somewhat in the last six months, which is due to a combination of physical and mental health issues. Writing has been disproportionately affected by these issues and it's clear I need to take a break from forcing myself to make that happen so that I can be happier and healthier later.

In order to ensure that this blog does...

New blog posts will hopefully be coming your way very soon, but in the meantime, here’s another revamped blog post, originally published a year ago under the title, “Stop Sharing This Graphic for Book Lovers.” It critiques a regularly shared meme as not only false but also pushing some misguided and harmful views about physical books vs. any other form of reading. The post has been updated but you can still read it at the same URL as before.

“The problem isn’t really this specific graphic, thou...

In the coming weeks, I'm going to be taking some time off writing; however, I don't want to stop providing you folks with content so this week, I'm featuring a revamped version of a blog post I wrote just over a year ago. Originally titled, "We Need More Healers," this post is about one of four commonly cited social justice activist roles and why this under-appreciated job is so important. The post has been updated to my current standards and you can still read it at the same URL as before....

Happy First Birthday Yopp!

Exactly one year ago, I launched my beloved social justice blog, Yopp! Twenty-eight posts later, I’m consistently posting twice a month (well okay except for last month), I’m spending hours every day writing and researching, I’ve improved my social media game, and I can’t wait to expand this blog even more. I’m particularly excited about the plans I have for Yopp Academy and the range of basic information I intend to cover to make it into a truly comprehensive guide f...

You may have noticed that there are no comments enabled on this blog. This was an intentional decision.

I think the discussion of complex topics is important. The comment policy is not intended to stifle discourse. But when it comes to who is contributing to such discussions, socially, the more privilege you have, the more opportunities you will have to speak your mind. And the more sources of oppression you deal with, the more likely you are to be silenced.

To compound this problem, the mor...
